I’ve been so caught up in my art as of late that I haven’t even thought about music for a while. I still plan on making new songs, but I’m just in such a great place artistically right now that there’s no reason to deviate from that path for the moment. I’ve been thinking about my next solo show, and how I’d like to create a musical score, maybe a 2 hour album, that could play in the background. This is just in the initial concept stages, but I think it’d be a great opportunity to finally combine my music & visual art into something all-encompassing. For now, here’s another older song, one I re-recorded for the Lovewar album, but was originally on Album 2.

Was listening to this today & wanted to put it up. It was the closing song for the Lovewar album. I was thinking about the future and how the world would look to some alien race who came upon us after we had ultimately destroyed ourselves…

How amazing it will be, when they come and see, this abandoned world. No more traffic lights. Empty streets below an empty sky. Buildings in decay. Remnants of a long-forgotten day. Stupid little men. How they kicked and screamed until the end.

No explanation necessary. From 2002, Down Faster Album 2.

DF album 4 was called Lovewar, and I had planned to make it one long story, a concept album, though I hate that term. Most of the songs were written to blend into each other, and many songs could be considered parts of one larger piece of work, both thematically & sonically.  The story was pretty grim, having to do with war, the rise of a police state, and a couple separated during the nuclear apocalypse, and then trying to find each other in the aftermath. I was in a pretty dark period of my own life at the time, so it all made sense to me then. Alot of this stuff feels a little too heavy to want to listen to repeatedly, but I’m still proud of these album 4 songs, even though they will always be pieces to an unfinished puzzle. Angry Sun is the song for the moment the bombs drop, and the instrumental horn death march at the end remains one of my favorite parts to any song I’ve ever written.

This is an alternate song from DF album 3. It was meant to be lullaby-ish, don’t know if I succeeded with that or not… It is appropriate today however, since it’s snowing like crazy & actually feels like Winter for the first time all year.

This song is also from Down Faster album 4. It was written for a very close friend who was going through a serious personal struggle, and I just wanted him to know that I was there for him, that he didn’t have to walk the dark path alone…

This is the opening song to what was supposed to be Down Faster album 4, written in 2006. It’s crazy to think it’s been so long since I was last making music. I’ll be posting more old Down Faster songs here in between the new ones I write.
